Main
- 40 pieces saltine crackers to cover a 10×15-inch baking sheet
- 1 cup unsalted butter 2 sticks
- 1 cup brown sugar packed
- 2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
Toppings
- 0.5 cup crushed peppermint candy optional
- 0.5 cup chopped pecans optional
Preparation
Preheat oven to 400°F (204°C). Line a rimmed 10×15-inch baking sheet with foil and lightly spray with cooking spray.
Arrange crackers in a single layer on prepared baking sheet.
Place butter and brown sugar in a medium saucepan and melt over medium heat, stirring until smooth. Bring to a gentle boil and boil for 3 minutes, stirring constantly.
Immediately pour the butter-sugar mixture over crackers and spread with an offset spatula to cover all crackers.
Bake for 5 minutes, until the mixture is bubbling.
Remove from oven and immediately sprinkle chocolate chips over the top. Let sit for 2 minutes to soften, then spread chocolate evenly over toffee.
Sprinkle with optional toppings.
Chill until set, about 30 minutes. Break into pieces and serve.
Allow the toffee to bubble a full 3 minutes for best snap.
Chill completely before breaking for clean edges.
Store in an airtight container to maintain crispness.
