Ingredients
  

  • 2 tablespoons butter or oil
  • 2 medium yellow onions thinly sliced
  • 3 garlic cloves minced
  • 2 cups sour cream
  • ¼ cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons finely chopped fresh chives
  • 1 tablespoon finely chopped fresh parsley
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt adjust to taste
  • ½ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • Optional: extra herbs for garnish

Instructions
 

  • Heat butter or oil in a large sauté pan over medium heat.
  • Add onions, stir for 2 minutes, then reduce heat to low. Cook 20–25 minutes, stirring occasionally, until caramelized.
  • Stir in garlic and cook 1–2 minutes more until fragrant. Remove from heat and let cool.
  • In a mixing bowl, whisk sour cream and mayonnaise until smooth.
  • Fold in the onion mixture, salt, and pepper.
  • Stir in fresh chives and parsley.
  • Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour to let flavors blend.
  • Garnish with extra herbs and serve chilled with chips or veggies.

Notes

For the best French Onion Dip, cook onions slowly over low heat for deep sweetness. For a fun variation, add a handful of shredded Swiss cheese for extra richness.
