Ingredients
  

  • 2 large sweet onions, sliced into ¼-inch rings
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 1 cup grated cheddar cheese
  • ½ cup breadcrumbs
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon ground black pepper
  • Cooking spray or butter for greasing
  • Optional: ¼ teaspoon smoked paprika
  • Optional: chopped parsley, for garnish

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 375°F and grease a 9-inch baking dish.
  • Arrange onion rings in overlapping layers in the dish.
  • Season with salt and pepper evenly across all layers.
  • Drizzle melted butter over the onions, coating them well.
  • In a bowl, mix cheddar cheese and breadcrumbs until blended.
  • Spread the breadcrumb-cheese mixture evenly over the onions.
  • Bake for 25–30 minutes, until the top is golden and bubbly.
  • Let cool slightly, then serve your Tennessee Onions warm.

Notes

For best results, use sweet onions like Vidalia. To spice up your Tennessee Onions, add a pinch of smoked paprika to the topping mixture.
